Local Apprentice Students Compete

Hagerstown, Maryland, January 7, 2017:
 The ABC of Cumberland Valley’s Barr
Construction Institute has showcased the skills of top apprentices in
Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, and Plumbing with the ABC of Cumberland Valley’s
Skill Competition. These apprentices participated in a two hour 100 question
written exam and a four hour hands-on practical exam. Winners of this
competition could go on to represent Cumberland Valley at the National Craft
Championships in Florida in March.

These students have worked full time and attended classes 2 nights per week 9 months
out the year during there 4 years at the Barr Construction institute. As a
requirement of their apprenticeship schooling they must compete in the skills
competition to demonstrate that they have learned and retained the skills of
their trade before graduation. These students will become the highest trained
best in their trades!

Winners for the events were:

Electrical:

1.     First place—Tim Wheatley—Ntech

2.     Second place—John Palmer—Bopat Electric

3.     Third place—Colin Allnutt--MEC

HVAC:

1.     First place—Jeff March—Stouffer Mechanical

2.     Second place—Richard Gantz

3.     Third Place—Cory DeGrange—Shifler Electrical

Plumbing:

1.     First place—Kemar Mitchell—J L Johnston & Sons

 The Barr Construction Institute, is located at 530 North Locust Street in
Hagerstown, MD and is owned by the ABC of Cumberland Valley. They have been
offering apprentice training since 1968. ABC has trained hundreds of
apprentices over the past 49 years that have help to build the Cumberland
Valley.  The school was purchased in 2007 and renovated by ABC contractors
 in the area. The school is over 25,000 square feet and gives us the opportunity to give the students a top notch education in their field. We have six classrooms and five practical classrooms where the students demonstrate what they have learned in the classroom and on the job.
